consonare - Chamber Choir from Dresden

History

In 1970 some students of the "Dresdner Hochschule für Verkehrswesen" (academy of traffic and transport) came together with the intention of playing music in different vocal and instrumental formations. Since 1987 the importance of instrumental music has been declining. Singing a-cappella came to the fore and the aims grew higher. They looked for professional leadership and in 1989 Annette Borck took over the artistic direction of the ensemble. Through this choir director and their combination of emphasizing linguistic details together with a form of expressive singing -an ability which she passed on and still passes on to today‘s singers- the choir's sound was created. In 1990 the members founded a club. They chose a name of latin origin. Its meaning "to sound together" combines both their purpose and aim.
In the next few years, consonare gave many concerts in Dresden and the surrounding areas. Important  highlights were a trip to Denmark in 1992 and two trips to Poland in 2003 and 2004. Every year consonare spends one week on the island Rügen (Rugia). There have been further concerts in Halle (Saale), Zwickau, Meissen, Pantschwitz-Kuckau and other places.
In November 2000, consonare celebrated its 10th anniversary. The choir invited all allumni. A lot of chatting was done together with taking photographs, hiking in the vicinity of Dresden, a few rehearsals and at the end a concert in the church of Dresden-Prohlis, in which all the former members took part.
In spring 2000 the executive board decided to found a childrens’ choir.
